Since arriving at The Dulaig eight years ago we have tried to make our gardens a haven for wildlife as well as for our guests.
We know that every year we can see more and more birds and mammals visiting us and for fun we installed some cameras to see what is visiting us when we are not looking. We could not believe our eyes when one of our cameras picked up an OTTER!
From the spraint (you can see it on the rock above and behind the otter) we know it is visiting regularly and have managed t...
Our garden at The Dulaig is so full of flowers and other life that it is hard to show all of it. Instead here is a little snaphot of what is here now.
Thie beautiful deutzia attracts bees and other pollinaters to feed.
Some combinations work really well, like this Acer Dissectum, paeony, Japanese anemone, Japanese granite bowl....and blackbird. It is The Dulaig after all!
Not everything...
As our guests know, at The Dulaig we feed our wild birds all year round, though on snowy mornings like today they really appreciate it......and we appreciate seeing them too.
What a lovely thing to watch more and more pheasants as they seem to appear from nowhere!
We read today The Times is raising money for the Hedgehog Society because hedgehog numbers are seriously declining in UK. It made us remember how lucky we are to have so many hedgehogs in our garden at The Dulaig B&B. We can see several in an evening, and often our guests see their first hedgehog here.
Our hedgehogs are doing so well that they sometimes have two litters of young a year, and these pictures are of tiny hoglets (baby hedgehogs) which we rescued in A...
This morning we awoke to this gorgeous scene in our garden.......the snow has arrived! For Hope, our little red-legged partridge hatched in summer, it is her first experience of snow lying but she sheltered in a dry spot in our fruit cage in the garden and is happily scratching around and eating this morning.
It has been our absolute pleasure to share our home, garden, love of Scotland and of food, with guests over the past 14 years. The experience of running our B&B exceeded our wildest dreams however we - Carol, Gordon (& The Cake Fairy) - have hung up our aprons for the last time.
Thank you to the wonderful guests from all over the world who have stayed with us. You have given us so many special memories which we will always treasure. Thank you too, everyone else who has supported us: your confidence in us was appreciated more than words can say.
Warmest Wishes to All, Carol, Gordon..and The Cake Fairy x
