Whisky

When you hear the word “Speyside” there is a very good chance you will think of Scotch Malt Whisky. The Dulaig B&B Grantown-on-Spey is a perfect base for exploring whisky distilleries, including those on Speyside and further afield.

Of particular excitement is the upcoming development of a brand new "state of the art" distillery here at Grantown-on-Spey. Named "The Cairn" it is less than two miles from The Dulaig. Work almost complete and the distillery is due to open in Spring 2022 so watch this space!

Malt Whisky Trail

The only whisky trail in the world, the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, is near to The Dulaig. The trail consists of seven working distilleries i.e. Benromach DistilleryCardhu DistilleryGlenfiddich DistilleryThe Glenlivet DistilleryGlen Grant DistilleryGlen Moray Distillery and the wonderfully picturesque Strathisla Distillery, as well as Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery and the Speyside Cooperage, the only working cooperage in the UK where you can see barrels being made and repaired.

There are also many other distilleries within a short drive of The Dulaig B&B, such as The Macallan Distillery and The Balvenie: although not on the Malt Whisky Trail they are certainly interesting to visit. For something different Dalwhinnie distillery offers malt whisky tastings coupled with delicious hand-made chocolates – a marriage made in heaven?

A recent addition to to the Speyside distillery fold is Ballindalloch Distillery, Scotland's first Single Estate Distillery. Officially opened by HRH Prince Charles in 2015 the first whisky is still enjoying its long, slow maturation, however the distillery offers a selection of personalised visits in which you can get close to the production or even work there for a day!

Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festivals

Why not come and enjoy the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festivals in May and September? The Festivals attract thousands of visitors to celebrate whisky, Scotland's national drink, through an inventive programme of events which are informative and great fun too.

Every year we have been very pleased to welcome to The Dulaig guests from across the world who have come to Speyside to experience the delights of the Whisky Festivals. Some guests really get into the spirit in more ways than one, even hiring kilts from our local kilt maker’s  to wear at some of the many events. Guests always say the whole experience exceeds their expectations.

Whisky and Tours

Not only in Speyside but across Scotland – on the mainland and on many islands such as Islay, Skye, and Orkney – dozens of distilleries make a huge variety of whiskies, each with its own flavour, character and history. Some guests like to visit just one distillery whilst others return to Scotland again and again, building their holidays around visiting different distilleries.

Whilst most guests come to The Dulaig Bed and Breakfast under their own steam, many travel with a personal driver/guide. Afternoon Tea Tours and Serenity Scotland are just two of the excellent companies which can work with you to develop the ideal tour for you for some or all of your trip to Speyside or wider areas of Scotland. With just the right balance of distilleries and other experiences they will help make your holiday in Scotland wonderfully unforgettable….and you will not have to do the driving, particularly helpful on a whisky tour.
